Regardless of what anybody says to you, always be kind. Consider why it is that you love and believe in drag, and prepare yourself for the difficult conversations, so you're ready when they happen. Educate yourself about why that is, and why certain countries, cultures and traditions will not be as quick to accept you as others. If you're always surrounded by a loving queer scene (if so, lucky you!), you may not always see it, but there are also a lot of people in the world who don't understand drag and don't like it. There's no way around it. Drag is an art form that incites feeling. All drag is valid, from the most well-known beauty queens, female impersonators and pageant drags, to the club kids, bio queens, drag kings, and gender queers of the world. ![]() Maybe you know what style of drag you like and want to do or maybe you don't! Either way, it's importance to accept others as you would hope to be accepted yourself. While not all drag artists are queer, it's a treasured part of queer culture. Look up Marsha P Johnson, Stormé DeLarverie, and Sylvia Rivera. Learning about the Stonewall riots is a great place to start. As time goes on and countries across the world go back and forth in their acceptance of LGBTQIA rights, we can't forget the roots of the colorful and beautiful queer scenes across the world. But did you know about other names in drag history, such as Julian Eltinge in the early 20th century, or Divine's rise to fame through the 70's? Learning the past helps when you're part of building the future. You've probably heard about the drag queens of Rupaul's Drag Race, as well as other shows such as The Boulet Brothers' Dragula, Drag SOS in UK, or De Diva in Mij from the Netherlands. We're going to let you do your own research on this one! 6. Have you done your research into where it all started? Before thinking about how to be a drag queen or king, take a moment to learn about those that came long before us, in the past. Beyond makeup techniques, it’s really down to time and preparation.There are several possible origins for the term 'drag' but one commonly accepted origin of the art form itself. I take as much time on my makeup as I do in creating a look or preparing for a performance and I think that is why drag queens tend to look so good. When it comes to eye makeup, you don’t have to paint with all the colours of the rainbow. Your eyebrows should be at least close relatives – if possible, twin sisters. Instead, get some Sellotape and press it on to the glitter to remove. Then there’s how to take glitter off – because if you just wash your face, then you will end up with glitter everywhere for days. The trick is taking your time, using a fine angled brush and being quite precise. ![]() You can stick crystals on your face with eyelash glue, the same for glitter. People always ask me how to apply glitter and sparkles. One thing I often see is orange foundation with pink necks. Skin comes in different tones – this applies to all skin colours – so some people have warm tones, some have cool tones. Your foundation shade should always resemble your skin tone. It plumps up your skin and makes it glow. The best makeup tip is to drink water – not just while you put your makeup on, but generally. It sounds like a cliche, but good makeup starts with good skin.
